This is my interpretation of the final episode of Lost – It has lots of spoilers so if you have not watched LOST yet. Stay Away.
I am going to write the full review of LOST series at a later time. The final episode deserves a lengthy discussion. I was watching LOST since yesterday morning and finished it at 2 AM last night. I was so full of questions and ideas and emotions. I just had to let it all out.
I am saying my interpretation of the final episode because I need to view that episode from a different angle to make me happy and well… make a little more sense too.
and so the 1 hour 44 minutes 26 seconds long final LOST episode starts off with the very familiar “Previously on LOST”
And things are shown to be heading closer to reality in flash-sideways and to a bad end in the island.
The flash-sideways starts of quite good. Flash-sideline is the alternate universe that was created when the Hydrogen bomb went off in the island and changed the whole future. Even though the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 had not met each they strangely seem to know each other and they constantly keep running each other. Jack’s father’s body has finally been found and it has arrived back home. Desmond Hume was the first to know what exactly was happening even though Charlie and Daniel Faraday had felt that something was amiss. Desmond takes it upon himself to help his other friends remember. And though a series of events most of the people remember the crash and the subsequent events. …….****
Back in the island the things are going from bad to worse. Jack, Desmond, Evil Locke, Ben, Hurley, Frank, Kate, Claire, Richard, Sawyer and Miles are the ones who are still alive. The group divides into two. Jack, Desmond, Evil Locke, Ben, Hurley go the source of light. Frank, Kate, Claire, Richard, Sawyer and Miles go to the Ajira Flight 316 to get off the island. Jack kills Evil Locke but is stabbed by him. He appoints Hurley as the protector of the island and go to the source of light to fix things. Jack’s death is one of the most intensely emotional scene I was ever watched.
and he watches and smiles as Ajira Flight 316 flies over him…. MAN… Amazing!!!!!
so the surviving people in the island are now Rose Nadler and Bernard, Hurley, Ben and Desmond. Hurley is the protector of the island, Ben is his second. [here what I’d like to think is Ajira Flight 316 crashes and everyone onboard dies and everyone back at the island too dies for well “x” reason and that warps up the island story; this is because I don’t want them to come back home and live a sad, alone life]
…….**** Jack is getting little flashes of memory but he still does not remember what happened. And then you know what happened. That didn’t quite work out for me. With some minor changes it fits perfectly. Too much stuff happened in the flash sideways to just declare it heaven. And if you want to argue on the “heaven” point, I am right here, lets get it on. OK. so. They are not in heaven, they are in Fringe-like alternate universe that is “flash-sideways”. Jack too remembers everything when he touches his father’s coffin. Then he goes to meet everyone who are very much alive in the alternate universe… and they live Happily Ever After.
If I start to interpret and write the full review of LOST… it will be as lengthy as a small novel. So I am not going to do that. I just end it here in a few lines.
Lost is an Epic and one of the most thought provoking series ever made. Some mysterious island is not its driving force, its characters are. It is a character driven drama, it gave us a peek into the life of different people from diverse background. It told that every one of us are in search for our place in this world.
It was an intensely emotional journey of joy and sadness. It told a lot about the good and bad and the balance in between. The universal message of love and redemption was ever present in the series. If you have not watched LOST yet, you are missing something really good. Watch it.
